Why Should You Not Regret the Past?

If there is one thing that hinders most people from getting on with their lives despite their seemingly good intentions, it is looking back and regretting the past. Looking back in the past is so powerful that most people would not even consider touching the top of the iceberg. They would instead sit in their bathtub, rocking back and forth, letting the tears flow down their cheeks. Looking back means looking at the painful past and realizing that what they have done or are doing is wrong.

But the fact is, looking back only makes things worse. The key to moving forward is the ability to let go of the past. Letting go involves accepting the past as a learning curve. No matter how tough life has been in the past, it's never too late to look back and try and learn from it. This can be a very difficult thing to do, but it is absolutely essential if you want to get on with your life. Learning from it and moving on instead of getting stuck also means a lot to your overall mental health and wellness.

So why does a person regret the past? The answer lies in the universal laws of cause and effect. Naturally, past mistakes or even painful past that is not your doing have an effect on your present situation. While it naturally, happens, moving on could be a different story as many times it does not occur naturally as the effect of regrettable or painful past. It needs proactive action to take one’s mental state from it. If you don't get this lesson, you will remain stuck in a lifetime to regret the past, as well as in the painful consequences of your actions produced by that regret. You see, there is so much at stake at this game of looking back in the past and regretting it. Sadly, it is your mental health and wellness of all things. Letting go of the past is the key to letting go of regrets.

Let's face it. Most people live life trying to avoid living in the present. How many times have you heard people say things like, "I wish I had gotten out more," or "It would have been better if I had taken the chance?”

These statements sound logical. But the problem with them is that they create a sense of urgency about being continuously held back by the past. This kind of thinking only causes you to procrastinate and postpone taking a more significant course of action like moving on from the past. Procrastination causes unnecessary stress, which then adds up to our overall stress level. If you truly want to let go of the past, then the best solution is to let it go.

You see, regretting the past will not help you move forward towards more important goals you should take action for. If you are constantly dwelling in the past, you will never get the happiness that you are after.

So instead of dwelling on the past, focus on the now. Ask yourself these questions: what is the present? How do you feel about life right now? Are there any positive changes happening? What will happen to my mental health and well-being if try to move one instead?

You must realize that sometimes, no matter how bad your life is, there is still hope. Do not allow yourself to get stuck in the past. Instead, get busy living your life right now. Stop dwelling on the past and start looking for the good things that are in store for you in the future. With proper motivation, you will be able to forget about the past and get to work building the life that you really want.

One of the happiest moments in life is when you find the courage to let go of what you can't change.

If you are able to forget about the past and focus on the present, you are going to have a much better chance at living the life that you are really supposed to have. There are people all over the world that get stuck in their remorse. They get depressed unable to think about moving on. This is not the way that you should live your life.

There are people all over the world that have changed their lives by changing their perspective of the past. In fact, many of these people were once miserable. Yet, through hard work and determination, they were able to get where they are today.

So do not allow yourself to be stuck on your past. Rather, take control of your life in your current state. You have the power to change your life and to be happy in it. Remember to live each day as if the next minute will be the last day that you live your life. Living with regrets of the past is not going to get you anywhere!
